Be prepared for the sneezles and wheezles…
Posted on 10th September 2007
Educating a child at an independent school is an expensive business. Senior boarding fees currently cost up to £8,000 a term before extras and senior day £5,000+. This is per child. So what happens when your child is sick or injured and off lessons for several days or even weeks? Do you get a refund? The School Bursar is unlikely to respond in the positive.
What you need is an Absence From School insurance policy. This will pay you a benefit, which could be used for extra tuition to catch up on missed lessons, specialist nursing care or for a parent taking time off work to care for their child. You decide on the amount you want covered and the qualification period (ie 7, 14 or 21 days) – that is the time your child is off school, before the benefits are paid to you. The longer the qualification period, the lower the contribution. However, once a claim is paid, the full period of sickness is reimbursed.
So before Christopher Robin goes down with the sneezles and wheezles, get some proper blanket cover for him.
