Boarding school touts benefits of Wi-Fi
Posted on 21st June 2007
A new wireless internet network to provide Wi-Fi access for students at Bishop's Stortford College, Hertfordshire, has been deemed a success.
The system, developed by Extricom, is aimed at providing the independent school's pupils with Wi-Fi access to help them study and keep in contact with their parents, TechWorld reports.
Head of IT Steve Bacon said: "There was demand from the pupils and parents for pupils to have internet access in the houses where they live.
"It seemed appropriate and they have handled it very maturely."
Earlier in the year, the BBC's Panorama programme found that wireless computer networks could have a potentially damaging impact upon health.
The programme's investigation revealed that wireless networks could be producing up to three times as much radiation as mobile phone masts.
Sir William Stewart, chairman of the Health Protection Agency, told the BBC that there should be a review into the effects of Wi-Fi technology.
