ISA chair calls for 'celebration of headship'
Posted on 25th May 2007
The chairman of the Independent Schools' Association has called for the education sector to celebrate the role headmasters and mistresses are able to play in independent schools.
Speaking earlier this month at the ISA's annual conference, Joan Mumby said that the choice offered by independent schools enabled teachers and senior officials to focus on children and the knowledge and skills they require to succeed.
Mrs Mumby outlined her three core values in terms of education, saying that it was important for the skills learned at school to remain in place for life, stressing the importance of choice and highlighting the need for schools and educational institutions to work with parents.
"In reality, a personal style of education is what matters to parents. This style, so often found in smaller schools, is the hallmark of ISA," the chair asserted.
Mrs Mumby is headteacher of Dodderhill School in Droitwich Spa, which was named as the 11 th best secondary school in the independent sector earlier this year.
