University funding should not be a barrier

People should not decide whether to go to university based on how much it is going to cost, it has been said.
The Childrens Mutual said that although more youngsters from poorer backgrounds are attending university, there are still challenges which remain to make higher education more inclusive.
Research from the Higher Education Funding Council for England found earlier this week that over the last five years, there has been an increase in the number of people from disadvantaged areas furthering their studies.
David White, chief executive of The Childrens Mutual, said: "With figures suggesting that students leave higher education with an average debt of £23,500 it is vitally important that funding university doesnt become a barrier to less well-off students attending in the first place."
He identified that people from more privileged backgrounds will have help with repaying their debts, although others may not be so fortunate.
