The UK should have more independent schools, it has been claimed.
According to Dr Eamonn Butler, writing for the Adam Smith Institute blog, claimed that, contrary to some commentators' beliefs, there should be an increase in private education, not a decrease.
He stated scrapping independent education would place a huge financial burden on the country and result in larger class sizes.
Furthermore, Dr Butler said such facilities "make their budgets work harder", ensuring that the children acquire a high standard of education.
He endorsed systems employed in Denmark and Sweden, which offer parents vouchers so that they can place their children in an independent school.
In this way, more youngsters would be able to access such institutions if a similar system was used in the UK.
Similarly, support was voiced for the private education sector by an Ofsted representative recently. She said children who attend independent faith schools often benefit from exposure to other cultures and religions, which, in turn, give them a greater insight.
