Parenting expert: Time to raise children's expectations

It is important to raise youngsters' employment aspirations while they are still at comprehensive or private school, it has been claimed.
According to parenting expert Catherine Hanly, editor of raisingkids.co.uk, helping children realise the link between hard work at school and a good job later in life is a positive step.
"Raising aspirations for children can only be a good thing, particularly if it means they realise there's an alternative to winning the X Factor," she added.
Ms Hanly went on to say that employers often complain that graduates leave school with an over-inflated sense of entitlement, but guidance helping youngsters think about their careers at an early age may change that attitude.
This week, the Department for Children, Schools and Families released figures indicating that children aged 11 have high aspirations for their futures.
Some 75 per cent of pupils surveyed said they want to go to university on finishing their secondary education.
