IT training for teachers 'will boost confidence'

A recently announced IT training scheme for state and independent school teachers will improve self-confidence, it has been asserted.
The Good Schools Guide remarked it will come as a boost to educators who feel "threatened" by their technology-savvy pupils.
Regional editor of the information site Sue Fieldman stated elderly classroom leaders may gain the most benefit from the initiative.
However, she suggested the £5.6 million funding may not be adequate on its own.
"[It] is a bit of a drop in the ocean - it's not going to go very far," Ms Fieldman said. "It would be nice to think that this is an ongoing annual commitment rather than a one-off payment."
The course is to be delivered by the Open University and e-Skills UK and will focus on modern aspects of the internet such as social network portals.
Educators who may already possess competency with computers such as IT teachers will also be involved in the upskilling sessions and will be urged to learn about how technology is used in the commercial world.
