Independent schools setting the standard in key subjects

independent schools in England are outperforming their non-private counterparts at both GCSE and A-level, according to new statistics.
Figures produced by the Independent Schools Council (ISC) indicate that, on average, pupils who attend these schools achieve a grade that is ten points higher at GCSE.
"The high-quality education offered by independent prep and senior schools feeds in to the outstanding results our students achieve," stated chief executive of the organisation David Lyscom.
The data indicates that ISC pupils "consistently outperform" their peers in the state sector, particularly in specific subjects identified as "hard".
These students especially stand out for their achievements in maths, the sciences and modern foreign languages, the figures show.
Pupils at ISC schools make up a high proportion of entries for these subjects at A-level.
And while interest in modern foreign languages is dropping in the state sector, uptake of these subjects at GCSE is growing in ISC schools, the statistics indicate.
Independent schools are holding up "despite the economic gloom", Mr Lyscom recently stated.
