Parents will give up luxuries before withdrawing their children from private schools, a headteacher has stated.
Speaking to the Evening Gazette, headmaster of Teeside High School Thomas Packer noted that he has not yet noticed any "significant downturn" as a result of the recession.
However, he noted that the school has seen applicants taking "longer to reach a decision" about whether to send their children to private school due to considerations about school fees.
"People are thinking their children have 10 years in education and the last thing they want is to put them into a school and have to take them out again," he told the paper.
Meanwhile, the news source noted that both nearby Yarm and Red House schools have reported healthy interest, with a growth in enquiries about places in both cases.
Last month, David Lyscom, chief executive of the Independent Schools Council, urged private schools that are struggling in the economic downturn to encourage applicants from overseas.
