One of Scotland's leading independent schools has been given an outstanding verdict in its latest inspection report.
Fettes College has received high praise from HM Inspectorate of Education, being graded 'excellent' in four categories and 'very good' in a fifth.
According to the report, this means that the school, which counts former prime minister Tony Blair among its alumni, is "sector leading".
Headteacher of the prestigious private school Michael Spens welcomed the news, stating that Fettes is "incredibly proud of our achievements".
"To be recognised as sector leading is testament to the dedication of both our staff and pupils, he added.
This reflects the content of the inspection report, which noted that the headmaster 'has a comprehensive and clear vision to develop well-rounded, confident and thoughtful individuals'.
Figures released by Scotland's chief statistician earlier this month indicated that while the number of pupils at independent schools in the country has dropped slightly, the proportion of children in the sector has grown due to a lower birth rate.
