A Northamptonshire prep school has announced plans to accept girls for the first time from next year.
According to the Northampton Chronicle, Maidwell Hall will become co-educational in September 2010, welcoming a higher number of pupils.
It is thought that there will be up to 165 pupils at the school from this time, up from about 100 at present.
"This is an exciting development for us and a new chapter in the school's history," headmaster Robert Lankester told the paper.
Ahead of the move, Maidwell is looking to develop new accommodation facilities for the girls so they can take advantage of its popular boarding option, with the head noting that the majority of the pupils at the school are currently boarders.
The school, which was founded almost 100 years ago, is also due to undergo a major ten-year development, with planned investment in a number of new facilities.
Catering for eight to 13-year-olds, Maidwell offers entrance scholarships at every level for academic excellence and promising talent in music and sport.
