A Wiltshire prep school is offering local children the opportunity to apply for a bursary for the first time.
Before being offered a place at St Margaret's Prepartory School in Calne, those who want to apply for a means-tested bursary will be required to sit an assessment, according to thisiswiltshire.co.uk.
Open to pupils from year three to six at primary school, the new funds will be made available from September, with assessments due to take place next month.
'Our intention is to extend the education opportunities offered at St Margaret's to the wider community and to those children who show academic promise, but whose families have limited financial means,' the news source quoted headmistress Karen Cordon as explaining.
The co-educational independent school caters for three to 11-year-olds and recently won a glowing inspection report courtesy of independent assessors RSAcademics.
In February Manor Hosue School at Honiton in Devon announced it would be offering four new bursaries for low-income families each year.
