Independent schools promote bursaries

The potential for gaining a bursary to a range of independent schools in London has been publicised in newspapers.
A group of private institutions in the capital have taken out an advertisement to inform the public about the possibility of gaining a fee-assisted place.
It is hoped that this will encourage more disadvantaged bright pupils to apply for the opportunity.
The £65,000 adverts could also benefit the schools involved - which include Dulwich College and St Paul's - when it comes to the Charity Commission assessing their public benefit status.
From April 2009, independent schools could face sacrificing their charitable status if the fail to meet the body's new test.
A spokesman for the group of institutions advertising stated: "We want to spread the word that these things are here and put the concept of bursaries on people's radars."
In Scotland, four schools were recently warned by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator that they would have to increase their bursary provision or risk losing their charitable status.
