The new international baccalaureate career-related certificate (IBCC) gives practically-minded students a "phenomenal" advantage, it has been argued.
Private school Windermere St Anne's is the first to trial the qualification in Britain, reports the Times Educational Supplement.
Available from 2011, the IBCC - which is worth up to four A-levels - gives pupils a chance to take undertake a vocational course, a foreign language, an academic subject, community work, an approaches-to-learning course and an ethics project.
Speaking to the news source, director of curriculum at the independent school Jenny Davey praised the course.
Popular subjects for IBCC pupils at Windermere St Anne's in the Lake District include geography, business studies, Japanese and German.
Ms Davey stated: "They would not have had opportunities to learn languages at A-level, but this way they get to study Japanese and do a hands-on course that has rigour."
Big Four firm Deloitte recently told the Independent that the International Baccalaureate makes it easier to differentiate between students.
