The steady growth of an independent school in East Sussex has led to its expansion.
Sacred Heart School was originally founded in 1938 and has been increasing in size ever since, the Kent and Sussex Courier reports.
And as a result, the primary's hall has been knocked down to create a new one, due to be completed in 2009.
The school hopes to provide hot dinners through a new kitchen in the building, while a large area will accommodate activities such as five-a-side football, indoor tennis, badminton and volleyball.
Headteacher at Sacred Heart Hilary Blake told the paper: "This hall is absolutely essential. It will allow us to stage drama productions, music performances and of course expand our sports programme."
The school has strong ties with St Leonards-Mayfield Catholic School - an independent girls school in Mayfield that many of its pupils progress to.
Partner at chartered accountants Haysmacintyre Noble Hanlon this week warned independent schools that they may need to reduce expenditure in the economic downturn.
