The first day at independent school came as a welcome relief for Usamah bin Zahid, who started in year seven at King Edward VII and Queen Mary in Lytham in September.
Speaking to the Guardian in July, Usamah spoke of his excitement and fear about moving on to secondary school from Queen's Drive primary in Preston.
But now he's had three months to settle into his new surroundings, all his fears have been allayed.
While noting that he was "more nervous" than he had ever been the night before his first day, this changed when he arrived, Usamah told the paper.
He continued: "I went to my form room, and everyone was saying 'hi' to one another. And I thought, 'They all seem friendly! This is going to be OK!'"
The new independent school pupil has also been reassured by the presence of other Asian pupils at the institution, noting that they "aren't treated any differently".
King Edward VII and Queen Mary School is a co-educational day school catering for two to 18-year-olds.
