The head of a private school has welcomed the news that it will be one of the first institutions to face the Charity Commission's benefit review.
Pangbourne College's headteacher Thomas Garnier has said he is sure his school will pass the public benefit test, something that is needed in order for the school to maintain its charitable status, getreading reports.
"I am confident that the college will meet the public benefit test and I look forward to working with the Independent Schools Council in helping to establish a benchmark standard," he told the paper.
The school must prove that it is contributing something to the community in order to maintain its charitable status, which saves the sector hundreds of millions on pounds in tax breaks.
Recently, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator warned four private schools in Scotland that they are at risk from losing their charitable stats unless they offer more means-tested bursaries.
