Bolton School is confident that it will pass the new public benefit test with flying colours, it has been reported.
The independent school in north-west England has told the Bolton News that it is in no doubt that it will meet the new Charity Commission guidelines.
Its clerk and treasurer Simon Marsden told the news source that the institution does a number of things that mean it meets the public benefit test.
"In particular, we support financially 290 children whose parents wouldnt normally be able to afford the fees, at a cost exceeding £1.5 million from a variety of local and regional sources," he stated.
He was speaking to the paper in the wake of news that the first five independent schools to be assessed by the Commission have been named.
Earlier this week high master of St Paul's School Martin Stephen argued in a Sunday Telegraph article that removing charitable status of an independent school could be detrimental to educational provision.
