While evidence has yet to be found of the credit crunch affecting school fee payments at some institutions, there is no doubt that its impact will soon be felt, it has been suggested.
Headteacher at Talbot Heath School Christine Dipple told the Daily Echo that the impact of the economic climate will be heightened by changes in qualifications.
She noted that parents who are investing in independent education are 'buying into it for at least a key stage,' adding that a lot of the teaching for the new style GCSEs will begin in year 9.
"I think that parents who are considering independent education for September 2009 will be doing a lot of sums to make sure they are not committing to something they cannot sustain," she stated, while admitting that the economic impact has not yet been fully felt at Talbot Heath.
This echoes the opinion voiced by head of City of London Girls' School Diana Vernon recently, who said the credit crunch could lead to increasing competition for state school places.
