The continuing impact of the credit crunch will have an adverse affect on parents who are struggling to pay for private school fees, it has been claimed.
And this could lead to tougher competition for places in good state schools, the head of a top independent school has warned.
Diana Vernon, headmistress of City of London Girls' School, which achieved the highest results in the Independent School Council A-level results table and the best of any school ever.
"The credit crunch is going to cause increasing numbers of parents to have to judge whether they are going to be able to afford to send their child to independent schools," she stated.
Ms Vernon added that parents may opt to send their children to a state primary, before investing in their education later on, due to the pressure of rising school fees.
Research released last month by Skandia revealed that a growing number of parents are concerned about not being able to afford to send their children to private school, Easier Finance reported.
