Three times as many private school pupils have achieved straight As at A-level than those at state schools, it has emerged.
According to the Daily Mail, while 9.9 per cent of maintained school pupils achieved a clean sheet, this rose to 31.1 per cent for those at independent institutions.
Overall, the paper suggests, one in seven pupils have gained at least three As in their A-levels this year, results for which are released today.
This is up on last year's percentage of straight As, which stood at 14 per cent according to the Institute of Directors who published figures earlier this week, reports the paper.
And the overall pass rate for the qualification is expected to have risen for the 26th year in a row, reaching over 97 per cent.
A growing number of private schools around the UK are abandoning A-levels in favour of alternative qualifications such as the International Baccalaureate.
