A legal battle in Scotland has seen an 11-year-old girl win the right to attend the same school as her sister.
The Greenock Telegraph reports that Robyn Greig was not admitted because numbers at Greenock Academy had already reached the council's limit.
Inverclyde council has capped numbers because of an impending merger with Gourock High, a problem those sending their children to independent schools are unlikely to encounter.
But a court has overturned the ruling, meaning Robyn can now attend the same school as older sister Nicole.
The council's original decision was defended by education chief Ian Fraser, telling the newspaper: "Inverclyde council has always granted placing requests wherever possible and only refuses this where there are sound operational reasons for doing so."
Parents of children in state schools in Aberdeen are currently facing the possibility of closures and mergers, as the council seeks to reduce costs.
