A former independent school pupil has been named to the England one-day cricket squad.
Samit Patel, who played for Worksop College for years between 1999 and 2003, has been called up to play against South Africa, the Worksop Guardian reports.
Headmaster Roy Collard told the newspaper he was "absolutely delighted" and described some of Mr Patel's early success.
"Natural ability combined with immense talent and first-class coaching at Worksop enabled Samit to break into the Nottinghamshire second team and to play for England in the Under-15 World Cup before moving to the Under-17s," said Mr Collard.
Two years ago the bowler became the first person to claim a double-wicket maiden in the history of English Twenty20.
He will play under new captain and former Nottinghamshire team-mate Kevin Pietersen, who previously led him in a Second XI Trophy game against Lancashire in 2002.
Another independent school with interest in the sporting world is Elvian School, where Olympic rower Hester Goodsell will begin teaching next month.
