Further examples of the problems with the 'state school lottery' have emerged, with primary schools in Essex under fire for forcing a number of families to send their children to different establishments.
Some 27 families in one single town are said to have been involved in appeals this year alone, ThisIsTotalEssex.co.uk reported.
During the schools application process earlier this year it was revealed that in a number of areas of the UK independent schools had benefited from the failures of the state system, as parents had been unwilling to take their chances on the lottery system and wanted to guarantee their children a good education.
Commenting on the situation in Essex, county counsellor Elwyn Bishop told the newspaper: "Families are being broken up. Mothers have to take one child to one school and another child to another school. It's impossible. Why should parents be suffering like this?"
