A brand new independent school will be opening in Suffolk this September, it has emerged.
With a small first-year intake of 20 children aged between five and seven, The Meadows Montessori Primary School hopes to grow into a fully fledged primary, catering for up to 11-year-olds, reports the East Anglian Daily Times.
The Ipswich school will be opened in response to the unavailability of places in nearby state schools, founder Sam Sims told the paper.
"The existing system of oversubscription for local primaries is forcing parents to seek alternative choices for their children's education," she said.
Furthermore, said Ms Sims, the price of education at The Meadows, which she calls a "school for everyone", are highly competitive.
"We hope that many parents will find that our fees are less than they are already paying for existing childcare," added Ms Sims.
Montessori schools stress the importance of learning through play and base their teaching on the ideas of educator Mari Montessori, who died in 1952.
