A private school head has suggested that each academy should be sponsored by an independent school, it has emerged.
Writing in Academy, a book published by thinktank CentreForum, master of Wellington College Anthony Seldon has called for increased cooperation between the sectors, reports the Guardian.
This, he argues, will contribute to breaking down the divide between fee-paying and state schools.
The publication has been backed by the three main political parties and contains entries from a number of education specialists.
Chair of the thinktank Paul Marshall suggests that the academy model should be extended to failing primary schools to boost results later, notes the paper.
And according to the Telegraph, director of CentreForum Julian Astle writes in the book that businesses running academies should be able to make a profit.
Guidelines to be introduced by the Charity Commission that could see independent schools losing their charitable status without showing signs of helping the community, are currently being debated.
