Pupils at a private school in York have given patients at a local hospital something to smile about after volunteering to renovate the grounds.
The team from St Peter's School is undertaking the green-fingered project to mark the 60th birthday of the NHS next month, reports the Press.
It is not the first time students from the school have been involved in voluntary work at York Hospital - last year they tidied overgrown areas and gave the courtyard a marine theme.
St Peter's community action co-ordinator Jane Dawson tells the newpaper: "Over 120 pupils are involved regularly in community action at St Peter's - the main aim of which is to encourage students to be aware of their local community and to give something back to society."
In total, 30 16-year-old students will take part in the 2008 venture.
In related news, all eyes at Reed's School in Cobham, Surrey, were glued to centre court at Wimbledon yesterday as former pupil from the independent school Chris Eaton made his second round appearance at the tournament.
