Tories call for school funding for armed forces children

The Conservative Party has called for extra school funding to be provided for the children of servicemen and women.
According to the Daily Telegraph, it has suggested that this incentive could serve to increase military retention.
Under the plans, local education authorities would be provided with extra funding to help subsidise children of members of the armed forces.
The proposal is part of an interim report produced by the party's commission into the future of the military covenant, to help improve the lives of members of the armed forces.
Shadow defence secretary Liam Fox announced the plans in the wake of an announcement by Gordon Brown that extra troops are to be sent to Afghanistan.
According to the paper, some children of military personnel change schools up to 11 times during their schooling, which results in a lack of continuity in education.
However, the Ministry of Defence provides a Continuity of Education Allowance, which is available to all ranks, that assists around 8,000 service children in attending fee paying boarding schools.
SFS Group has been providing a specialist life and critical illness insurance for parents whose children are at fee paying schools since 1990 without treating armed forces personnel any differently to civilians.
To us, it does not matter whether you are Special Forces, Logistics, Aircrew or a Nuclear Submariner. Nor does it matter to us if you are serving in Bulford or Basra, Hounslow or Helmand. It does not affect your premiums.
There are no pre-medicals and no lifestyle questions - the only declaration you need to make is any pre-existing medical conditions that you have had in the last 5 years.
So long as your children are in fee paying education when you join the scheme, it will pay all school fees up to their l8th birthday, if the insured member of the armed forces dies.
This cover is provided whether that death occurs on operations, in a road traffic accident, during training or through a terminal illness.
The school fees even go direct to the school, so that the remaining parent is not bothered with all the administration. We take care of that. Peace of mind in an uncertain world.
