An increasing number of parents are paying to send their children to pre-prep schools, according to new figures.
The last decade has seen a 20 per cent increase in children under four attending private school.
It is thought that this is due to parents wanting to give their children an early educational headstart.
Commenting on the growing trend of parents keeping their child at one school for as long as possible, chief executive of the Independent Association of Prep Schools David Hanson said: "Where there is a good school, parents want to get the most out of the brand that they can."
Pre-prep sections have recently been added to a number of top independent schools, including Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, where headteacher Peter Hamilton said expected the majority of five-year-olds to remain at the school until they turn 18 in 2021, reports the Financial Times.
A recent survey issued by the Independent Schools Council suggested that the majority of parents in England would send their child to a private school if they could afford it.
