The head of the Independent Schools Council (ISC) has resigned following a number of public clashes with senior figures.
According to the organisation's website, Chris Parry, who has been in the post for less than two months, has stepped down as chief executive by "mutual agreement".
While the website states that Mr Parry has "chosen to take up other opportunities that he has been offered", the BBC notes that he came under fire from private school heads for the strong views that he expressed, creating friction between the state and independent sectors.
He has previously referred to the relation between these sectors as "Cold War" like and was more recently involved in a row sparked by comments published in the Guardian that reported he said that state school pupils were "unteachable".
The ISC has stated that general counsel of the organisation Matthew Burgess will be taking over as acting chief executive with immediate effect.
Speaking at the ISC's annual conference earlier this month, Mr Parry warned delegates about the threat that globalisation could pose to independent schools.
