Private school Pocklington Montessori has been sold by an award-winning businesswoman.
The school will now be owned by Beaconhouse and will be headed by new principal Tracey Slack, reports the York Press.
Rosie Pressland has won praise for her running of the institution, which has been credited with boosting the national quality of pre-school teaching.
One of her best-known achievements was equipping six-year-olds with the same reading standards of ten-and-a-half-year-olds.
According to the paper, she said: "My big achievement was to help staff at the school have a wonderful sense of their own abilities."
Beaconhouse is one of the largest independent school providers in the world, heading a network of 125,000 students from pre-school to post-graduation.
Pocklington's website says that its Montessori curriculum is designed to respect a child's individuality, enhance their independence and give them a positive attitude towards life and learning.
