Ofsted to witness strike action
Posted on 14th May 2008
Ofsted inspectors are set to witness their colleagues striking this week.
It is believed that around 1,000 members of staff will walk out in a dispute over a below inflation pay rise.
In April, schools across England and Wales were affected when members of the National Union of Teachers walked out for similar reasons, claiming that poor pay incentives were preventing undergraduates from joining the profession and causing established teachers to leave.
Members of Unison and the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) will strike on Friday following a new pay structure and pay deal imposed by Ofsted.
However, Ofsted inspectors will not be striking, despite 67 per cent of Unison members and 60 per cent of PCS voting in favour of the action.
Unison's national officer for Ofsted Helga Pile told the Guardian: "Ofsted must get their act together and come back to the table with a more realistic offer."
