Scheme tells parents how to raise children
Posted on 7th May 2008
A new scheme will see parents sent tips on how to look after their children by text message, the Mail reported today (May 7th).
The £44 million scheme will also see hints being sent via social networking sites, sparking fears of a nanny state.
Divorce, bullying, discipline techniques and homework will all be advised upon as part of the government initiative and single fathers will be encouraged to play online games with their children on a special networking site.
The Parent Know How initiative has been designed to improve UK parenting to keep it in line with school discipline.
However, the Mail reports that similar schemes in the past have been condemned as nannying.
Speaking before the launch of the scheme, children's minister Kevin Brennan said: "Kids don't come with instructions so we all need a little help sometimes."
He added that the new projects would provide answers in a way that suits parents.
