Exam papers stolen
Posted on 1st May 2008
The exam board AQA has admitted today that a number of its exam papers have been stolen.
Both GCSE and GCE papers went missing after the theft of a contracted delivery van two weeks ago.
Now the exam board is faced with writing new papers in time for the exams, which start in less than two weeks. Papers including law, business studies and English literature will all now be replaced.
AQA has said it takes all security breaches very seriously and that the candidates' wishes to protect the integrity of the examinations was its "paramount concern".
In a letter to the affected schools, AQA's director general Mike Cresswell apologised to teachers.
"We do appreciate that this decision will cause you and your staff extra work but replacement of papers is the only practical way of securing the interests of all candidates in these particular circumstances," he said.
Exam dates and times will not be affected.
