CSI investigation for private school pupils
Posted on 23rd April 2008
Pupils at a private school in Hull have enjoyed solving a murder mystery with CSI-style forensic skills.
The pupils from both the prep and senior school at Hull Collegiate School set up a fake Cluedo-style murder mystery. Then the classroom detectives used the scientific techniques they had learned in their science lessons to uncover the culprit. Teachers played the roles of the five suspects.
Experiments including testing blood, clothes and footprints were all employed by the students. It is hoped the project will encourage children to take a more active interest in science.
Speaking to Private School News, deputy head of science at the school Rachel Willie said: "The project helped demonstrate to pupils the usefulness and excitement involved in the practical application of science in the real world."
Several schools in the US have embraced including forensics projects in their curriculums. The science can lead to jobs in the police sector as well as more lab-based work.
