Asda extends green scheme
Posted on 10th April 2008
Asda has extended its Go Green For Schools scheme due to its success.
The scheme, which encourages the supermarket chain's shoppers to be more environmentally conscious, involves awarding parents who use an alternative to the plastic bag with vouchers for schools.
Now the initiative has been extended until the end of June.
Schools can exchange the vouchers for environmentally-themed prizes, including bird view remote cameras, solar panels, weather stations and grow beds.
This year 6,800 schools across the country were invited to attend.
Coordinators from Asda will deliver awareness sessions and speak at school assemblies to help encourage children to take part.
Sue Hancocks from Shropshire thanked Asda for the rewards, saying: "You have made a small school very happy and we are hoping to get our Green Flag ECO award."
Lynne Cannon, head teacher of a school in Saxon Wood, said: "We really work hard here to help our children find out more about the environment and how to look after it."
Other environmentally conscious school initiatives going on across the country include a talent contest for children in the West Midlands.
