Students' fun 'could come back to haunt them'
Posted on 9th April 2008
A student finance charity has warned that the fun people have while at university could come back to haunt them.
UNIAID is warning students against dodging bills and charges now as it could affect their credit rating later on in life.
According to UNIAID, graduate debt currently stands at £17,500 and 71 per cent of sixth form leavers said being short of money was their greatest worry about higher education.
Executive director of UNIAID Alistair Lomax said: "Be responsible because it will have an impact later on. [Students] just need to be really careful at the moment not to get a bad credit rating because it will affect their ability to borrow later on in life."
Mr Lomax advised students to make use of all the support services available to them in order to effectively manage their finances.
UNIAID offers an online calculator that allows students to make a comprehensive note of their in-goings and outgoings.
