Manchester school wins football competition
Posted on 14th March 2008
Manchester Grammar School has won the 2008 Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) Under-15 Cup, beating Latymer Upper 3-2 to take the top spot.
The competition is open to all private schools who are members of the association and this year 42 teams from across the country took part.
Manchester, a leading all-boys day school, won the match when pupil Sam Cantor scored the winning goal, after the game went into extra-time.
Richard Lunn, head of football at the school, said: "The final was made very special and it is an experience that I am sure the players will remember for the rest of their lives."
Manchester Grammar School celebrated another achievement recently, after coming 14th in the Financial Times list of the UK's top 1,000 schools.
The ISFA is affiliated to the Football Association and is charged with developing and promoting the game in the independent sector, where traditionally sports like rugby or hockey have been more popular.
