Prince's school open to disadvantaged pupils
Posted on 19th February 2008
Prince Charles' old boarding school is set to give children from deprived backgrounds the chance of a top-class education, the Daily Record reports.
The exclusive Gordonstoun school in Moray, Scotland, has been the recipient of an £8,000-a-year fund from a former pupil, Damon de Laszlo.
Mr de Laszlo has set up the scholarship to pay all fees for one pupil for five years, in order to give them the benefit of a private education.
Head teacher Mark Pyper told the paper: "This is an incredibly generous gift."
The Charity Commission recently released a report which recommended that independent schools should charge lower fees, so more families can afford to send their children.
It also said that it had told schools with high charges that they should set aside money to provide free or subsidised places for children from poorer backgrounds.
