Independent schools 'give Easter exam boost'
Posted on 12th February 2008
Private education can be helpful prior to the exam season, a new report indicates.
According to the Independent, a growing number of parents are taking advantage of the tutorial opportunities offered by independent schools during the Easter holidays.
Catriona Elder, academic adviser at Basil Paterson College, noted that people seek the additional help provided by the school for a number of different reasons.
"Some are already A-grade students who want to be sure of getting good results, others are borderline passes. It gives them extra confidence to go into an exam and perform well," she told the publication.
Small class sizes in specialist tutorial colleges tend to provide the majority of holiday revision lessons, the report observes.
The individual attention provided by independent schools in this context can be invaluable, it is claimed.
Meanwhile, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority has reported a rise in the number of pupils being allocated extra time or help such as braille in exams between 2006 and 2007.
