Private school teaching 'gets results'
Posted on 17th January 2008
The headteacher of an independent school in Worcestershire has attributed his pupils' exam success to the quality of teaching they receive.
All 18 of Heathfield School's GCSE entrants achieved five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths, last year, reports the Kidderminster Shuttle.
The school's headteacher Roger Brierly told the newspaper he was delighted that his pupils' efforts had been rewarded in the form of good grades.
Mr Brierly added: "The results are very simply down to hard working, excellent teaching and small class sizes."
Department for Children, Schools and Families figures show that within the state sector, only 46 per cent of pupils attained five good GCSE passes, including English and maths, in 2007.
However, results in the private sector were considerably better and figures compiled by the Independent Schools Council show that 81.8 per cent of pupils from its member schools were awarded five A* to C grades, including English and maths, last year.
