Confidence 'will be boosted' by new exams
Posted on 21st December 2007
Public confidence in the exam system will be boosted by the new GCSE qualification, a leading body has commented.
The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) has published the finalised GCSE qualification and subject criteria and stated that it will help stretch and challenge candidates.
Almost all GCSE subjects were reviewed during the consultation and the remainder will have new criteria developed next year.
Dr Ken Boston, chief executive of the QCA, said the current education reform programme is an "important educational innovation".
"Its introduction will ensure that all young people are able to demonstrate their skills, knowledge and understanding when studying for a qualification that meets their individual abilities," he claimed.
GCSE studies containing the new criteria will begin in 2009 and the first awards will be made in 2011.
The government is to review all qualification options open to pupils aged between 14 and 19 in 2013.
