Soldiers urged to organise insurance
Posted on 20th December 2007
Soldiers should organise their insurance as early as possible to provide for their loved-ones in the event that something happens to them, an expert has advised.
William McCartney, principle of Apple Insurance Brokers, warned that many insurers will refuse to provide cover once a soldier has been notified that they are being deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan.
"My advice to any soldier would be to get your cover sorted and the sooner they do the better," he explained.
An 18-year-old would be cheap to insure and so a teenager considering joining the army may want to take out a life insurance policy before they sign up, Mr McCartney added.
Earlier this year, Steve Couch, an adviser with Trafalgar Mortgage and Financial Specialists, warned that those dedicating a lot of their time to serving in the Territorial Army also risk life insurance companies raising their premiums.
Where can serving personnel turn to provide for their families?
SFS Group has been providing life and critical illness insurance for armed forces' parents whose children are at independent school since 1990 without any hassle and without any discrimination in treating them differently to civilians.
To us, it does not matter whether you are Special Forces, Logistics, Aircrew or a Nuclear Submariner. Nor does it matter to us if you are serving in Bulford or Basra , Hounslow or Helmand. It does not affect your premiums.
There are no pre-medicals and no lifestyle questions the only declaration you need to make is any pre-existing medical conditions that you have had in the last 5 years.
So long as your children are in independent education when you join the scheme, it will pay all school fees up to their l8th birthday, if the insured member of the armed forces dies.
The cover is provided whether that death occurs on operations, in a road traffic accident or through a terminal illness.
The school fees even go direct to the school, so that the remaining parent is not bothered with all the administration. We take care of that. Peace of mind in an uncertain world.
