Be proud of going private, parents urged
Posted on 17th December 2007
Parents should be proud of sending their children to private school rather than embarrassed, an expert has claimed.
Vicky Tuck, president elect of the Girls Schools Association and headteacher of Cheltenham Ladies College, made her comments to the Sunday Telegraph.
She stated that people are proud of paying a high sum for a pleasant home or jacket but sheepish about securing a top education for their child.
"If you decide to spend your earnings on the most valuable thing you can do - to give your children an education - you are damned for doing so," she argued.
Furthermore, if the state provided excellent education then there would be no need for private schools, Ms Tuck added.
Earlier this year, Ms Tuck told the Daily Mail that boarding school could provide a sanctuary for children under pressure from so-called helicopter parents, ambitious individuals anxious to ensure their child succeeds in all aspects of their lives.
