Child's education 'well worth sacrifices'
Posted on 13th November 2007
A family who are making many cutbacks to keep their son at an independent school have said it is a small price to pay to ensure he has a good education.
The parents of Harry Braid told the Daily Telegraph they have put off plans to redecorate their home or to go on holiday to ensure their child receives the attention he needs in the classroom.
His mother Diane Braid said the state comprehensive Harry had been attending was "perfectly okay" but that large class sizes and a rapid staff turnover had caused them concerns.
"At [my new school] we get four hours a week sport, there are loads of extra-curricular activities and classes are much smaller, meaning you get more of the teachers' time," Harry commented.
The Independent Schools Council reports that the average termly fee at one of its member schools is £3,391.
For boarders, the average fee is £6,712 a term.
