Fees insurance from schools 'often basic'
Posted on 31st October 2007
An expert has said that although some independent schools offer insurance plans which are value for money, their cover may not be as comprehensive as parents would wish.
Steve Danson, a chartered financial planner with independent adviser Elementum, said private schools often do offer their own insurance plans but that they can be "very basic".
"If people are automatically included in a scheme at school it certainly won't cover their income if they're off sick for a long period of time, or if the parent dies," he said.
Some policies offer health insurance for the child so that if they became sick and required an operation it would not need to wait for NHS treatment, continued Mr Danson.
The Independent Schools Council reports there are 620,000 children being educated in Britain's 2,500 private schools and accounting for seven per cent of Britain's total number of schoolchildren.
