Boarding 'gave me confidence & independence'
Posted on 16th October 2007
A commentator has spoken out in favour of boarding school, saying it gave her confidence, a great education and strength.
Writing in the Times, Sara Lawrence said boarding school allowed her to mix with many different cultures and gave her the ability to "get on" with many different people.
She said: "I loved my schooldays, and - so long as I can afford it - any kids of mine will be going to boarding school."
Ms Lawrence recently published a novel based around the adventures of school girls at a boarding school entitled High Jinx.
She says since its publication, many people have asked her how she avoided being "messed up" by boarding school and urges: "The truth is, it was my making rather than my undoing."
The Boarding School Association claims pupils gain a great social life as well as an enhanced education. It says boarders benefit from greater access to facilities and a wide variety of activities.
