Learning 'needed from 0 to 18'
Posted on 23rd August 2007
An expert has claimed "shiny new schools" will not help address levels of illiteracy in Britain and said there needs to be a focus on education from "zero to 18 years".
Managing director of the Learning Partnership Aulden Dunipace has said the government must address the early-years development of children
in order to ensure they maximise their potential.
He made his comments in the Guardian newspaper and said although he supported the end of corporal punishment, its removal had left teachers with no means of controlling the unruly in order to teach the many.
Mr Dunipace said the challenge and the reason for current illiteracy "lies in both what is happening before these children
arrive in primary schools and the support given to teachers on their arrival".
The Learning Partnership is a not-for-profit group which aims to support the development of government initiatives to create a "brain-friendly developmental approach" within communities.
