Minister: more must be done for children
Posted on 14th August 2007
Minister for schools and learners Jim Knight today congratulated children, families and schools on the latest Key Stage 3 exam results but said more would be done to raise the level of achievement.
It was a mixed bag of results, showing an increase of one per cent in the amount of children
gaining Level 5 but a drop in boys' writing skills.
In maths, there was a one per cent drop in the number of children
gaining Level 5.
Jim Knight said: "Whilst I'm disappointed to see a drop in maths and writing, it's important to put this into context."
He said the overall trend was upwards and that dips in grades in the past had been quickly rectified.
The Association of School and College Leaders also commented all that mattered was the trend was upwards and that debate about minor percentage dips was "pointless".
