School uniforms to be recycled
Posted on 17th July 2007
Proposals to recycle school uniforms have been put into effect by Oxfam, working in collaboration with a number of schools in East Refrewshire.
Under the initiative eight primary and three secondary schools will make school uniforms available at reduced prices, offering affordable uniforms to local pupils.
Ii is reported that school blazers will sell for £10 to £15, notably cheaper than new. If successful the scheme could be rolled out nationally in a move designed to cut back on waste and promote recycling among communities.
Liz Sim, manager of the Clarkston Oxfam branch taking part in the scheme is enthusiastic over its progress.
"The donations we have received so far have been terrific, as has the response from people in the area," she told the BBC.
"Schools from all over the neighbourhood have been a great help."
In related news a teenage pupil was recently denied the option to wear a 'purity ring' to school as an expression of her Christian faith. This decision, it was found, was not in breach of her human rights.
